  • All Churches in the Paterson Diocese to be Temporarily Closed

    Liturgical and Church Access Regulations

"In order to both provide for the safety of the faithful and to attend to your well-being,

I am directing that all of our church buildings and chapels be closed until further notice. Government health officials have indicated that the next two weeks will usher in a virulent spread of the COVID-19 virus. Therefore, Church buildings are not to be open for any period of time during the day or night. Access to all parish buildings is to be strictly limited to staff that are essential for onsite requirements relating to maintenance of the buildings that cannot be delayed. These norms apply to religious houses in the Diocese of Paterson as well.

Additionally, I want to emphasize that Funeral Masses are not to be celebrated at this time. Following a brief committal service for the departed, which may include the priest, funeral director, and no more than eight members of the immediate family, the priest may celebrate Mass privately for the soul of the departed. A Memorial Mass for the deceased may be celebrated when this crisis has passed.

Thank you for your adherence to these regulations."

  • Save the Date to Celebrate: Sunday, May 31

This year, 2020, marks the 70th anniversary of Holy Spirit Church. Each year on Pentecost Sunday, which is the Feast Day of our church, we celebrate with a special Mass followed by a light lunch. This year, we will mark the date, Sunday, May 31, with a visit by the Bishop, who will be the main celebrant at our 11:00AM Mass. Additional details will follow, but please plan to attend the 11AM Mass on that Sunday and celebrate with your fellow parishioners and friends.

  • Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

Do you know any adults who need to receive the sacraments of Baptism, First Eucharist or Confirmation? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
(RCIA) is the process by which adults are formally received into the Roman Catholic Church. RCIA is for adults who were never baptized, or were baptized in
another Christian tradition or those who were baptized as Catholics and never received Confirmation or First Eucharist. RCIA is a process of adult faith formation
that involves prayer, instruction, and discernment within the context of a small faith community.

For more information about the RCIA process at Holy Spirit, please contact Steve Kass at 973-879-3102 or stephenbkass@ gmail.com.

  • Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

    What is R.C.I.A.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the coming home of any adult into the full and warm embrace of God the Father and Holy Mother Church. It is a joyous time of growth, healing, and love in the life of any adult who comes to a relationship of faith, hope and love in God through Jesus Christ. Receiving the Sacraments of Initiation, namely Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist, the adult catechumen or candidate is welcomed into the full life of the Church and encouraged to engage in the life and ministries of the Church as faith leads to action.

The adult catechumen or candidate is also exposed to the life of holiness, a call from God experienced by all people, and the many ways he or she can live that call as a servant of Christ and His Church. The catechumen or candidate is exposed to the different spiritual traditions of the Church, as well as her charitable and liturgical activities and ministries, so that he or she can find a home in the life of the Church and contribute his or her gifts and talents to the building up of the kingdom of God.

RCIA is an 8-month process by which adult, baptized Catholics complete their sacraments of initiation, and those who would like to become Catholic for the first time receive their sacraments, is beginning registration now.  If you, or someone you know, is interested in joining these sessions, please call the Parish Office at (973) 696-1234.

  • Visits for the Homebound

If you know of someone who is homebound and would like to schedule a visit from one of our Eucharistic Ministers for Holy Communion, please have them call the Parish Office at (973) 696-1234.  Homebound individuals who would like a visit from Fr. David for the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick or the Sacrament of Reconciliation may also call the Parish Office to arrange for a visit.
